A Life and Career Plan is an on-going process where a person establishes goals and identifies several ways to achieve them.
At Wal-Mart de Mexico we understand that both personal goals and company needs cannot be apart. 

Therefore, we place special attention on associates’ career plans. If they grow, we grow. 
Deciding where to work is one of the most important decisions a person may have to make, and a good decision can make a difference.  When looking for a job several elements must be taken into account, such as, salary, benefits, closeness to one’s home, etc.  However, it is advisable that the company is one that provides learning and growing opportunities for its people.

Wal-Mart de Mexico offers training and development programs to support personal goals.  If our people make the difference, our obligation is to help them, as their talent is needed to meet corporate profitable and sustainable growth. 
There are training and development programs aimed at all levels. 

Stability

Wal-Mart de Mexico is one of the largest retail chains in Mexico, and as such, it offers security and stability.  We operate in over 172 cities nationwide and trades in the Mexican Stock Market since 1977.

Our growth is supported by the opening of new units, productivity indicators and new trade initiatives, which result in a significant number of growth opportunities, hence, the stability our associates seek.

2007 was a special for Wal-Mart de Mexico, not only for its continuing, profitable growth, but for the way it prepared to face the future long term.

 

Training

Develop talent is one of the most important goals for Human Resources.  We want to expand knowledge, skills, and abilities so that each person is able to perform successfully.  We support our people’s growth, and want them to explore their full human and technical potential, and to exceed expectation in everything they do. 

In Wal-Mart de Mexico we trained associates using teaching/learning techniques designed according to each position, and to the place of work.

Teaching material is based and oriented to ease the learning process. Videos, presentations, computer-based learning, whiteboards, slides, and flipcharts are just a few of the resources to facilitate training.  Today, we have classroom, computer-based and internal TV training.  Some units have learning centers where the associate is able to implement what he learned in class.



Development

Associate development is a personal process requiring from specific follow-up.  Our programs provide associates with the tools they need to learn, grow and manage their progress. 

All associates have a Development Plan so that each one can find their own strengths and areas of opportunity.  Once they are identified, specific actions for improvement can be taken.
We are proud to communicate that, in 2007, 23,574 associates were committed to their own promoted to a higher position.

Diversity

One of the goals of Wal-Mart de Mexico is promoting equal working, training and development conditions. In 2003, Wal-Mart was certified by the Mexican Women’s Institute as a company that complies with the Gender Equity Model, MEG 2003.


Gender Equality is essential to implement the Wal-Mart Culture.  The model creates and reinforces actions to promote equality among men and women, regardless of age, race, social status or physical abilities.

Wal-Mart de Mexico’s commitment to diversity favors a healthy working environment, and promotes personal and professional satisfaction.

Open door policy

Communication is of the utmost importance for Wal-Mart de Mexico.  This is why we have an open attitude which allows associates to be heard.

The term “Open Door” means that when an associate has an idea, a concern, or a problem he can talk with his direct supervisor without fear of retaliation.  He also has the freedom to go to the next level of supervision until his issues are addressed. 

This is one of the ways that Wal-Mart de Mexico has to make sure associates are heard and receive a fair answer always.
