Sustainability is “Safekeeping the environment to improve the quality of life of future generations”. Our program includes concrete actions in the energy, wastes and products line items in the operation of our stores and restaurants.

We are the first commercial chain that uses refrigerators free of harmful substances for the ozone-layer. Everyday, we are committed with preservation of the environment. At Walmart we comply with environmental standards.

During 2007 we recycled:

1. 130,697 tons of cardboard
2. 2,979 tons of shrink wrap
3. 5,173 tons of fat and bone
4. 182 tons of used cooking oil
5. 5 tons of clothes hangers

Totaling: 139,036 tons

Furthermore:

• We released 900,000 m³ of sanitary landfills, equivalent to 55 soccer play fields
• We recycled cellulose fiber materials equivalent to saving the lives of 1,627,019 trees
• We had 235 PTAR
• Energy: We consumed less energy in our units
