The importance of water for Walmart

Walmart de Mexico wants to ensure its effective participation in water management, that is, to obtain the participation of associates, suppliers and customers for the good handling of this valuable resource.

Water, renewable resource, but…

The increasing need to achieve hydrological balance that ensures enough water-supply to the population will be achieved by establishing a harmony between natural availability and resource extractions, through an efficient use of water. Pure water is a renewable resource, however, if contaminated by human activities, it is harmful for the health and difficult to reuse.

Water is the element with the greatest importance for an adequate development of human activities. Its contamination or scarcity is a huge problem faced by millions, a problem closely linked with population health.

Approximately 1.1 billion people in the entire world do not have access to clean water. Another 2.6 billion do not have basic sanitation systems, including bathroom fixtures. The World Water Council established that for 2015 some 3.5 billion people will live in places where water is scarce or starting to become scarce.

What is wastewater?

Polluted water coming from industrial activities, companies, homes or rainwater, and that was polluted by urban settlements.

Wastewater treatment at Walmart de Mexico
