In 2010 company performance will combine the growth of our traditional business formats with the drive of our three most recent platforms: Bodega Aurrera Express, Banco Walmart, and the merger with Walmart Centroamérica operations. In addition to the new units we are allocating over one billion pesos to update our distribution and logistics network, and will increase the budget to remodel our existing units by 21%. These are excellent news for our associates, customers, suppliers, shareholders and the communities where we operate”, said Scot Rank, Executive President and CEO for Walmart de México y Centroamérica. The 2010 investment plan for Mexico includes the opening of 300 business units distributed as follows:
With the openings estimated sales floor growth in 2010 will be 11%. In 2009 Walmart de México opened 275 units with an investment totaling $9.73 billion pesos and created 6,400 jobs. It had sales of $269,397 billion pesos, 10.4% more than in 2008, and served 1.21 billion customers with an increase of 0.1% in average ticket vs. last year. Walmart de México now has presence in 265 cities nationwide. It also generated savings for its customers in excess of $11.45 million pesos, through the every day low prices strategy, that is, 55% more than in 2008. Scot Rank added that investment in the distribution network includes the opening of a modern Distribution Center in the state of Tabasco, which will service seven states in Southeastern Mexico: Campeche, Chiapas, Tabasco, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Yucatan, and Veracruz, and will take care of over 500 suppliers simultaneously. Also, Scot Rank stated that a new wind-power park in the state of Oaxaca will open in March. The park will save up to 292 GWh of electricity a year and will facilitate the supply of electricity to over 348 stores in Central Mexico. It is worth mentioning that the investment of $12.5 billion pesos is 28% higher than in 2009. At the same time investment to remodel existing stores will increase by 21% vs. 2009. With regards to the integration of Walmart Centroamérica, Scot Rank said the following, “our financial standing will allow us to keep our pace and growth plans with a medium- and long-term perspective. It also represents a great opportunity for synergies and efficiencies that will be beneficial for our customers.” The 2010 investment plan for Central America includes the opening of 30 business units, distributed as follows:
As for Banco Walmart – added Rank- “in 2009 we started operating as banking correspondents, in 2010 this will allow us to continue growing gradually and launch products and services to support sales in our business formats, and reward customer loyalty. Such is the case of our debit and credit cards which offer bonuses for each purchase made at Walmart de México stores. This year we are opening 168 branches nationwide, that is, an 88% increase vs. 2009”. The Executive President and CEO for Walmart de México y Centroamérica, added that “as part of our social responsibility, we will continue looking for growth opportunities for our over 17,000 suppliers. On that regard, the recent launch of Banco Walmart’s Credimpulsa is extremely important as it offers financing as working capital for our suppliers. We will continue to drive initiatives that contribute towards improving the quality of life of our associates, as well as talent-related enhanced gender equality”. Regarding social responsibility Rank stated that Walmart de México y Centroamérica will continue integrating state-of-the-art water and energy saving technologies into stores in order to meet sustainability goals.
